The NACN Lab is a research group in the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. It is a question-oriented laboratory focusing on neuropsychiatric disorders, mainly schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Our main objective is to understand brain-behaviour relationship and how the advancement of cognitive neuroscience, affective neuroscience, and social cognitive neuroscience help us formulate a better understanding of underlying mechanism of neurocognitive deficits observed in patients with neuropsychiatric disorders, mainly schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

The strategy is to study distinct neurocognitive performance (particularly attention and executive function) and everyday life cognitive errors in healthy people, at-risk individuals, patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders and related neuropsychiatric disorders with various methodologies.

The methodological approach of the lab is to look for convergence and complementarity from multiple research tools. Behavioural experiments are combined with brain-imaging methods with spatial (structural and functional MRI) and temporal (ERPs) resolution. We also adopt animal models and psychopharmacological approach and genetic related analysis to study the wide range effect of antipsychotics on disorders and to find out the optimal endophenotypic markers for neurological and psychiatric patients.

The laboratory is led by Professor Raymond Chan. Postdoctoral scientists and students are encouraged to work independently and cooperatively on relevant questions of their own interest.
